Rays of Hope recently completed its annual Cycle Tour of Hope, which took place from 24 to 26 October 2014. The fund raiser was a resounding success this year with over R600 000.00 raised!
The event commenced with 36 riders cycling from Clarens to Johannesburg, a total of 365 kilometres over the three-day period. Nine cyclists joined the last stage of the ride from Vanderbijlpark to Johannesburg. The route takes the cyclists through breath-taking landscapes, and the comraderie among cyclists makes for an entertaining and enjoyable event.
The Tour encourages riders to participate in an effort to raise funds through sponsorships of corporates, friends and family. Cyclists aim to raise R15 000, with a minimum commitment of R5 000. The funds raised are used to aid the 12 projects that impact over 1 000 people in Alexandra.
“This was the most well attended Cycle Tour of Hope event for Rays of Hope by far. We are so grateful to so many individuals willing to assist the NPO to raise funds for the Alexandra community, and give up their time to take part in this event,” saysJennifer Adams, CEO of Rays of Hope.
This year two development cyclists from Alex participated, and were given a bike, gear and training, in order to complete the three day event.
The Tour of Hope offers a corporate naming partner a wonderful opportunity for marketing exposure and for employees to get involved in a team building event, and a service to the community. BEE points and tax deductibility are incentives for reputable companies to partner with Rays of Hope.
Says Marius van den Berg & Roderick Wolfenden, participants in the 2014 Cycle Tour of Hope: “The 2014 Cycle Tour of Hope was wonderful. The logistical arrangements were superb and brilliantly executed, we met some wonderful people, saw some beautiful parts of our country and enjoyed our favourite sport – cycling. Most importantly, as much as the tour was about raising funds, it was also a way of getting us to ‘stand still’, reflect and be grateful for what we are blessed with.”
