While carbohydrate-rich food is more affordable, it is not nearly as healthy as fresh food, especially fruit and vegetables. In partnership with a number of supermarkets, Rays of Hope distributes fresh food on a weekly basis to over 1,800 people in Alexandra. The food supports the people in all of our programmes, as well as benefiting many other organisations in Alex that we work with.
Fresh food is essential for the development of healthy minds and bodies, so we ensure that the young children at the ECD centres that we partner with, get fresh food. On the other end of the age spectrum, the old people at the Alex Old Age Home, also receive from us.
