Gender Based Violence (GBV)

For counselling requests related to GBV, trauma or any other crisis, call our hotline: 079 488 8448

As an organisation, we are active in the fight against GBV in Alex. We are fighting this scourge in three key ways:

  1. Supporting victims of GBV through reporting, counselling, court procedures, support groups and other ways
  2. Actively taking a stand against GBV by picketing outside the courts, participating in community events, organising a candle-light event that remembered victims of GBV.
  3. Educating young people in schools about GBV, anger management and bullying and how they can actively play a part to reduce GBV.

How can you help?

It is about enabling those who walk daily with victims to have the tools they need to do their jobs.

  1. Airtime – Our social workers need to respond to text messages at all hours of the day and night. They often have to do counselling on the spot, on the phone and coordinate various services. This uses a lot of airtime.
  2. Laptops, data and petrol for social workers.
  3. Sponsoring the creation of awareness materials & videos by local artists and performing artists, which can be shared via social media, etc.
