Bertha is the Programme Manager for Ithemba Labantwana, a programme of Rays of Hope that focuses on children in the community of Alexandra. The programme focus has shifted from just focusing on the child to now focusing on the whole family to preserve, sustain and stabilise families in the community.

As a Zimbabwean, Bertha arrived as an asylum-seeker, working initially as a domestic worker. But her huge heart led her to Alexandra and Rays of Hope where she has lived and worked since 2011, even fostering 10 children at one stage. A teacher by background, Bertha has also completed her B.A Social Work degree.

Bertha is married to Martin and they have two biological children whom they adore. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking on the fire, reading and listening to music.
