DiscoveryCare’s support helps us give more Alex residents a reason to keep dreaming.

Rays of Hope’s ability to impact the lives of thousands of disadvantaged Alexandra Township residents wouldn’t be possible without our staff’s dedication, our exceptional volunteers, and support from organisations like Discovery, one of our 2021 corporate sponsors.

In May of this year, DiscoveryCare, a division of Discovery Health, adopted Rays of Hope as its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) partner, helping us impact our partners and staff’s lives in different ways, despite the challenge of the pandemic.

The company contributed to our #WarmUpAlex campaign by donating warm clothing, blankets, and food packages. It also took teenagers from RoseAct Saturday School on a hiking excursion at the Modderfontein Nature Reserve, where staff members spoke to them about the importance of dreaming of a better future and living a healthy lifestyle.

In November, DiscoveryCare’s employees will put together stationery packs for the learners, ensuring they’re ready to return to class when schools reopen in January.

“Rays of Hope’s work in Alex is truly inspirational, which is why we couldn’t wait to get involved. The support it offers community members, especially the children, touched us, and we felt this is what we want to support as far as possible,” says Candice Grant, HR Business Partner at Discovery Health. “We hope to continue adding value to the incredible work this organisation is doing.”

DiscoveryCare will continue to support Rays of Hope and the work we do in the Alexandra community in 2022, this time focusing on helping school leavers create a better future for themselves through mentorships and educational support.

These types of partnerships enable us to continue touching lives through food and clothing donations, skills development programmes, and education initiatives. In addition to directly benefiting the individual, our collective efforts also improve the lives of their family members, friends, neighbours, and the rest of the community.
