Rays of Hope has officially become a recognised partner of the United States-based GlobalGiving crowdfunding community. This is a milestone achievement that has opened the door for the Alexandra-based community project to gain access to the GlobalGiving marketplace.

GlobalGiving is the first and largest global crowdfunding community that connects non-profits, donors and companies in nearly every country around the world. The crowdfunding community helps non-profits from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe (and hundreds of places in between) access the tools, training and support they need to be more effective and make the world a better place.

To become a recognised partner, Rays of Hope seized an opportunity to build skills, access tools and grow its base of supporters to achieve crowdfunding success by entering the GlobalGiving Accelerator programme.

On 7 January 2020, it was announced that Rays of Hope had graduated from the programme to become a permanent member of GlobalGiving. This meant that the non-profit organisation would gain access to all the tools, training and one-on-one support available in the GlobalGiving community.

As part of the GlobalGiving Accelerator programme, Rays of Hope successfully achieved the accelerator target of $5,000 from 40 unique individual donors to support their project – Support an Orphaned Child – Restore a Family. As a result, Rays of Hope is better able to empower orphaned and vulnerable children and develop their full potential while at the same time uplifting the family unit through home visits, counselling, a monthly food parcel, after-school support and more.

Rays of Hope supports 150 orphaned and vulnerable children within the impoverished community of Alexandra by providing a loving, safe and supportive environment. In doing so, the children can continue to live within the community instead of being placed in orphanages or foster homes. Rays of Hope employs field workers who partner with families to assess, plan and manage a solution to move the family from vulnerability to a place of stability and hope.

Through a child-focused approach and a community-based presence, Rays of Hope ensures that the needs of the children are met and that the children, families and Alexandra-based community members take a lead role in making the necessary change.

Rays of Hope is incredibly grateful to all the donors who have raised funds, and call on overseas-based friends of the organisation to continue to contribute using this platform to ensure that we are able to change the lives of our children well beyond 2020.
