Yarona Afterschool Programme

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, loads of little children in Grades 1 – 3, arrive at our centre for the Yarona Afterschool programme, which is part of our education offering.

They receive a nutritious lunch and then start to learn English and Maths in a fun way. The idea is to ensure that they have a strong ability to speak and read English before reaching Grade 4, when their classes start being taught in English, as opposed to the vernacular. We make use of a teaching method known as Face Clues, which teaches children to “read” people’s faces to understand what they are saying.

How you can partner with us:
  • Sponsor a Child  – monthly support to enable a child to attend our Yarona programme
  • Donations of educational toys and books suitable for 6 – 9 year olds
  • Come and read to the children and play fun games for an afternoon
  • Either bring a healthy lunch for the children or come and cook something in our kitchen
