RAISE-A-CHILD

Raise-a-Child

The Raise a child initiative allows businesses and individuals to support and empower the youth of Alexandra through a monthly donation of just ZAR2,000. This programme allows Rays of Hope to ensure the basic, fundamental needs of a child are taken care of, so that they can focus on what’s matters most – enjoying their childhood.

Monthly contributions can change a child’s life, and allows us to provide the holistic support they need for a brighter future, and to become thriving, contributing members of society in the future. These contributions help cover the following costs:

  • Provide families with food parcels when needed
  • Assist with school fees payments and educational excursions
  • Daily nutritional meals
  • Access to psychosocial support services
  • Stationery packs at the start of the year
  • Provision of educational toys, puzzles and books
  • Sandwiches and fruit every week
  • Additional tutoring for specialised subjects

“Conventional wisdom tells us that a thousand-mile journey begins with the first step. As Rays of Hope, we have an audacious ambition of building leaders of the future who will impact the world and place Africa on the global map. Our first step in this exciting journey is to place the child at the centre of everything we do. To achieve that mammoth task requires that we create an environment where these children will be nurtured and much like a rose that grows through concrete, be given space to flourish. We are fully aware that the township child carries much baggage and if educational interventions are to succeed, we must talk to his trauma, poverty, and domestic strife. Hence, we deploy our resources to ensure that we address the child holistically for them to grow as a fully-fledged person” - Muziwethu Zwane
