GBV Prevention Programme

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) continues to impact families and communities across South Africa. Our GBV Prevention Programme focuses on early intervention and prevention at community and Early Childhood Development (ECD) level.

GBV Prevention Programme

ABOUT GBV PREVENTION PROGRAMME

The programme equips teachers, caregivers, and community stakeholders to:

  • Identify early signs of violent or harmful behaviours in young children
  • Recognise indicators of domestic violence affecting learners
  • Respond appropriately and safely to disclosures
  • Create safe, protective learning environments

By intervening early, we aim to disrupt cycles of violence before they escalate and to promote healthy relationships, respect, and emotional regulation from a young age.

School-Based Intervention for Vulnerable and Troubled Learners

Some learners experience behavioural difficulties, trauma responses, or emotional distress that interfere with their ability to function effectively at school. Our school intervention services provide:

  • Individual assessments
  • Group Sessions
  • Behavioural support plans
  • One-on-one mentoring and counselling
  • Collaboration with teachers to implement supportive strategies

Through structured intervention, we help learners develop coping mechanisms, emotional regulation skills, and positive behavioural patterns that improve both academic performance and peer relationships.

COUNSELLING & FAMILY SUPPORT

We believe that supporting a child means supporting the entire family system. Our qualified social workers provide:

  • Individual counselling for learners
  • Family counselling and mediation
  • Home visits to assess living conditions and risk factors
  • Referrals to external services where necessary

Families receive guidance, emotional support, and practical assistance to strengthen their capacity to provide stable and nurturing home environments.

A Holistic Approach to Care

Each learner within our programmes is assigned a social worker who monitors their wellbeing and ensures that appropriate interventions are implemented when needed. Where necessary, families are also linked to nutrition support and other essential services to remove barriers to learning and development.

By integrating psychosocial care with educational support, Rays of Hope ensures that children are not only academically prepared, but emotionally resilient and socially supported.
