This month, Rays of Hope is pleased to shine a spotlight of recognition on our longstanding partner organisation, Sandton City.
Since 2019, through the pandemic and to this day, Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square management and staff have committed to helping empower the people of Alex through a number of initiatives, all of which have made a tangible difference in real lives.
Notably, the Park and Pay it Forward campaign saw over R700,000 in parking income from Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square donated to Rays of Hope during lockdown in 2021. This money was used to make improvements on an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre in Alex.
Sandton City has also created employment opportunities for Alex youth at its shopping centres, made substantial donations of books, stationery and other vital resources and conducted a number of upgrades, including classroom improvements and furnishing for a library at an ECD centre, as well as renovations to our main office areas just this year.
“Our beautiful country is beset with tremendous inequality, but also has enormous possibility,” says Dimitri Kokinos, Asset Manager at Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square. “We can all play a role in closing that gap and enabling South Africa and its people to reach their full potential. Sandton City will continue to work closely with Rays of Hope, and be led by their needs-driven approach and their philosophy to empower South African youth.”
